Case Study

When taking on a hosted application for The Home Office, we were told that hacking attempts would be made and that security would be breached...

As you can imagine, the government have the most stringent of security requirements and we were informed that our security arrangements for this service would be tested to the full and that they fully expected to break-in and that we would be judged on how long this took. Indeed, they stated that they would break into the web server within minutes but that they expected access to the database server to be a little more difficult due to the architecture of the system

Solution: We created a 'back-to-back' Cisco firewall solution with dynamic port-mapping between the two firewalls. This meant that the window of opportunity to 'jump' from one firewall to the other was limited and ever-changing. The resulting system was therefore extremely secure and far exceeded the customer's expectations.

The customer started their penetration test and after numerous attempts, the system security had still not been compromised. Although we recognise that most systems are ultimately 'breakable', the fact that we passed such a sustained and aggressive penetration test, it testament we believe, to the diligent manner in which we approach all of our customer's security requirements.
